Imagine that the first rehearsal of your new orchestral work is about to begin. You're confident, yet nervous. Orchestra players greet you. Maestro cordially shakes your hand, then gets down to business within a surprising matter of seconds. You quickly take your seat in the hall as the orchestra begins to play the opening bars of your new commission.
But a minute later the orchestra stops playing because the clarinetist asks the conductor a question about the notation in measure 47. After some discussion, the conductor turns and asks you for clarification. Another minute of directions and pencil scribbling, and your music resumes. Three minutes later the trombones enter too early. The conductor asks to play this section again, and the trombones repeat their early entrance. People look your way; the librarian is asked to come to the stage, and the next five minutes are spent trying to determine what is wrong with the trombone parts. Some musicians begin chatting amongst themselves. The orchestra manager glances at the clock.
So little time is devoted to rehearsing new music. You can't afford to submit materials which don't measure up. You can't rely on notation software alone to produce truly professional scores and parts. "Out of the box" won't cut it here. The spacing, the amount of bars per staff (or system), the slurs and even some of the fonts will need the attention that a good eye will provide.
I offer quality, dependability and elegant design. I can input your music from scratch, or I can take your files, improve the notation found in them and complete them. My goal is to provide a product that is accurate, clear and legible, with abundant cues and intelligent page turns. As I work on your music you can depend on me to identify any notation that might mislead a performer and to provide suggestions for its improvement. My well-prepared materials will allow musicians to focus on performing your music, and not be distracted by a less-experienced copyist's mistakes. All will see and hear the difference.
If you have a publisher, I would be happy contact them and ask for the notation specs they use. To date I've worked on projects represented by Presser, Schirmer, Peer, Schott and others. If you are self published, I will take the same care to apply the most commonly requested publisher's specs to your music.
